GRAPHIC COMMUNICATIONS Good: Mr. Freeman= Bad: Dr. Vanderwall= in GC 120 you won't learn about CAD software, and will have to learn thefreehand stuff on your own HISTORY Good: Dr. Pumphrey= history 208--she's okay, you don't get a lot of facts more a touchy, feely generalization of history...class is essay-everything...has standard notes to bebought Dr. Johnson= really easy and good; very nice Tyler= good lecturer; be sure to read though, tests may surprise you Cadell= great guy, very reasonalbe on late papers, will have to struggle for an A though Carlton= nice guy, strict on attendence and HW assignments Hobbes= even better than Tyler Bad: Bohnam= just plain awful unless your the type of person who really loves pre‚1945technology; don't take this class unless you have to; and if you have to take another instrucor MATERIALS Good: Balik= very knoledgable, reasonable HW assignments Russel= same as Balik MATHMATICS Good: NORRIS= MA242 Norris is a nice guy who teaches an easy to follow class. You know exactly what to expect on each exam, and if you study, there are no surprises. He is hard to ask questions of though, as he makes you feel like you should already know the answer. He has lots of Physics experience. For Diff Eq II he is very deliberate in his teaching method, very methodical. When you take his tests you better know the material although he is very fair. Levon Page= 114,finite math; pretty good profesor but is a jerk Dr. Lung Chung= math 341--for those people who hate math, don't want to learn anything about diffeq's, must take up to 341, skip often and want an A, takeChung...he's the most pitiful excuse for a teacher known to mankind...his tests would be easy for high school algebra students, and you don't learn a thing... Dr. Norris= little hard to understand at first but has copies of his old tests and oldtests=new tests; also has HW assignment answers available; HW 9%, Maple 9% Jack Silverstein= tries to joke around; maple assignments may be long; tests are generally easyand most to the stuff is reviewed for; grading curve is generous Dr. X.Lin= open note tests for diff‚eq Powell= straight forward tests, fairly easy Dr. David Brown= boring but test are easy and fair Ulrich= good lectures, fair tests Luh= good lectures, fair tests Dr.R.E.Chandler= not a push over by any means but you will find that you WILL learn the material and he is very, very, fair. Will admit when he is wrong. Usually has a favorable grading curve. Reviews are similar to tests Dr.E.Stitzinger= very fair; will readily correct errors made by graders; knoledgable; laidback; wears a T‚shirt and jeans; avid cyclist and runner so you can kiss up to him in these areas Dr.J.M.A.Danby= very intelligent; has an asteroid named after him; VERY mathimatically minded Dr.R.Fulp= not organized but is very helpful outside of class; does not like to give non‚A or B grades in his 400 leavel classes; very fair grader Fred Woodward= FRED is a most excellent calc teacher; he has very fair tests and will go out ofhis way to help you outside of class; very personable Joani Wall= keeps you interested Dr. Chuchwu= hard to understand what he's saying, but tests are easy Mr. Griggs= Excellent and understandable instructor; lots of extra credit;very lenient ingrading process in his acceptance of late work; easy to understand White= hard to find out of class, loves maple/matlab, off the wall Ben Fitzpatrick= This man is a great teacher and he's awesome!!! Definitely take his class if you can Bad Silber= when i told people I has him they just laughed hysterically....you decide Faulker= doesn't really teach math, usually whines about his loser son, but curvesgenerously Barnett= too hard, vague lectures Dr. Koh= very hard to understand; grading system is very cloudy Dr. Schecter= lectures are hard to follow; wavers on his word; not helpful Dr. Paur= no one has anything good to say about her Dr. Charlton= simply worthless Scroggs= one of the most imcompitent people i have ever met. he sucks as a eacher, a man, and a human being. a complete dork who needs to find a new line of work. maple is very resonalbe though MECHANICAL/AEROSPACE ENGINGEERING Good: Olds= Silverberg= Eishen= Royster=**also bad Yearling= Boles= good instructor but challenging tests; entertaining; doesn't mind being challenged himself Klienstruerer= test are impossible and if he weren't such a good instructor he'd be one of the bad guys METEROLOGY Good: Eder= easy going; doesn't take attendance; only grades are 3 easy tests and a final; not boring Gerald Watson= he is so incredibly boring. Nasal voice, talks about a topic for 30 minutes. Material is ok, though. consists of 5 tests. Bad: Royster= very demanding of time; thinks he's the only teacher at school; very nick‚pickabout format and irrelavencies; lectures are fast and illegible Dr. Haussen= if you don't want to have to take MAE 301 more than once then take a differentprofessor. There was one class of 30 students where only 5 got Cs or better; very hard to understand, tests are OUT OF CONTROL!! MUSIC: Good: Marilyn Lynch= This woman is great!!! She's so sweet, it's almost like having a class with your grandmother! She's an awesome pianist, too and this class is really fun! PHILOSOPHY Good: Jesseph= powerful and knowledgable instructor; teaches such that everyone will want to getinvolved in debate Savage= really cool; interesting lectures,lax... laid back class, comprised of notes and three exams, one final-->each counts a quarter...drops lowest exams, there are final exemptions... fairly interesting material...lots to read...good prof... Tom Regan= PHI321 (comtemp. moreal issues)awesome. not that hard of a class, but a LOT of reading. PHYSICAL EDUCATION Good: George Youtt= PE104 (swim conditioning) awesome. class is fun. Diana ?= very nice, pretty cool Dr. Ousley= Great Teacher. Funny as all. (looks kinda like Nicholas Cage, Fair. 3.5 stars out of 5 Bad: Cathy Davis= aweful, mean, don't take any of her classes!!!!!!!!!!!! PHYSICS Good: Dr. Tilley= just a great guy Neminch= good lecturer; and he DOES HAVE HW despite floating rumors Dr.Patty= if you don't do anything else in physics ....get this professor!!!!!!!!! He is the only(currently known) professor in physics that will give partial credit on multiple choice tests; if your not able to get him via the almighty TRACS system then go to his class anyway, especially the problem sessions, and more than likely he will hook you up. Veryfair minded. Former head of phys dept Dr.Risely= Dr.Schetzina= although he is a dry lecturer he does have his own brand of very interesting humor; he knows what's important and why certain things in physics are relevant in todays world; very experienced; if its a class were he makes the tests they are easy, hedoesn't try to trick peole and see how many GPAs he can screw up; he will redilly talk basketball with you and if you can beat him at H‚O‚R‚S‚E, or a free ‚throw contesthe will give you an A, no one has ever taken him up on this,I'd like to see it happen; if your a liberal ninny‚nanny then you'll probably take offense to his sexistremarks which are actually well intended for good fun and friendly competitiveness between the sexes Johnson PY203= B+: a bit anal, fairly good teacher though...tests have mulitple choice parts which is nice...hates to be called on phone...has desk in perfect order...not bad teacher... not as nice as Patty.***see Bad.. Louie Elliot= TA; best damn TA, sent by God to the students of nc state Hallen= a little boring and speaks in a very monotonous voice, but he's over-all a very good teacher. He explains things pretty well, and does lots of example problems. He's very helpful out of class, also. His sections average is generally 6 to 8 points above the overall class average Blondin= Electromagnatism, fairly good teacher, homework can be burdonsom, some test questions can get out of hand. Good guy though. Bad: Mowat= Mechanics; pretty good guy but fails as a teacher. to many notes on his web cite. HW is next to impossible but test are a "little" more reasonable but still very tough. Grades on curve which just depends on where you stand in the class which is pretty fair. he's only bad because he's not a good teacher of information and concepts. Katsin= just plan horrible, he's as usefull as a TV without a remote Ellison= Johnson= i made As on all other physics classes, got a C in his, his test suck, too much dirivation crap POLITICAL SCIENCE Good: Oliver= get to talk about current events and he will modify his tests to compensate for thetopics coverd in class vs. topics covered in the readings; Political systems of China is highly recommended Sloat= He's a superior instructor; marvelous orator; has a grasp of the material and puts itinto context; even the readings are interesting Dimock= PS201-I found he was a great professor, lectures weren't too dry and were somewhat interesting. Regular attendence is neccessary to follow the class without reading the material. He does assign 4 essays over the semeter, but looks for improvement over time rather than actual grades..... Hall= interesting class but reading can be very burdonsome. fair grader on papers, and paper topics are given to you to choose from Andrew Taylor= PS201 (intro. to poly. sci.) AWESOME.not a lot of work...really nice. Great accent too Bad: Pavlik= huh,huh...he sucks; lectures are are about current events then tests and quizzes arefrom the readings which are long; he expects you to harp on "key words" as he designates them; if your not a poly sci major just eliminate him from the realm of instructorsthat you want to have, not that poly sci majors should want him either Gilbert= although he's the most knowledgable PS instructor at State, he is long winded and easily side tracked when talking about his political contacts and associations; readings are light; grading system is like so: 40%‚midterm, 60%‚15‚20pp term paper, 40%‚final exam; YOU MAKE THE CALL!! PSYCHOLOGY Good: Pond= easy; old test= 25% new test Dr. Kalat= "wrote the book"; very intertaining lecturer, tests are simple Dr. Rupert Nacoste, Social Psychology, (PSY 311, also teaches some PSY 200 sections)Take it. Move classes out of the way to take any class with this man. AWESOME PROFESSOR. Lectures have NEVER bored me, workload is silly. Requires a one day a week discussion group that is not painful either, (as in two classes, Wed. and Friday, and discussion group Mondays) 7 out of five, no joke, take this. Bad: Dr. Hess= Developmental Psych. (PSY 376) Sux worse than rain on a beautiful day. Avoid at all costs. On a 5 star scale he would get a negative two. ;P Lectures painful and notes given too fast for human comprehension or in time to make a record that they ever existed, labs suck. Dr. has an attitude that exceeds the realm of "full of himself" and falls into category of "minor deity". ;P blahhh. RELIGION Good: Need= he's a temp from carolina so don't know how long he'll be around. if you can i highly recommend his REL300 class eventhough his tests can be frustrating bc the material is not hard at all. Dr. Adler= VERY, VERY, HIGHLY educated man; his Intro to New Testament is awesome, the multchoice portion of exams is very easy but the 2‚3 short answer essay questions can suck if you don't pay attention in class and take good notes; he's simply and outstandinglecturer Bad: Jaffe= this man needs to get his class together; he teaches from an outline that he doesn't deviate from; all his test are on reserve at the library and old test=new test, should be a "good guy" Carter= terrible; unorganized; boring; hard tests; useless lectures; find someone else thatteaches his classes SOCIOLOGY Good: Dr. Boos= lousy teacher but very easy grader Bad: Ridgeway= Maxine Thompson= SOC301 (human behavior)the worst professor i ever had. she never comes to class and is very unprepared. Be ready to teach yourself the course.............. Avoid like fraternity party trash-can punch, this class will make you sicker and waste more of your time than 4 dozen hangovers. Dr. is consistently late, but then bitches at students who walk in a minute behind her when she's already twenty minutes late. I HATE hypocrisy. Notes are USELESS and the woman cannot speak in low-vocabulary mode. You must have a SAT verbal score of 800 before taking this class to achieve any sort of basic understanding, and even THIS will guarantee you NOTHING when exam time rolls around... also requires quite extensive paper due at end of semester, professor will outline set due dates for this particular assignment and nothing else... negative 4 on a five star scale. (I dropped this one before the end) SOIL SCIENCE Good: Kleiss= SSC200 He is a nice teacher who geniunely cares for the class, but his tests are harder than the material he teaches. I learned a lot, but had to do a lot of reading. STATISTICS Good: Ridgeway= ST371 A: Statistics, by the way...odd guy...only teacher who's a PEprof, karate, and educational prof...knows material well, kind of kooky, odd?"Isn't that right?!?!?!?!" allows whole page of notes to be taken intoexams...there are two exams-- 45% homework--20% final--35%...not bad guy...learn material well...hard grader though...takes off lots of points, but not too hard to get it all right... Smith= he is border-line good-bad, he'd be a bad guy if he wasn't such a great person, i didn't learn much in class, read the book a lot WOOD PAPER SCIENCE Bad: Elisabeth Wheeler= WPS 102 She's nice but boring...the class is basically a joke anyway, and you have no choice about the teacher anyway
