  • Spring99 CH201 "My grade in the class was F.
He's not the worst teacher in the world but his tests are terrible. They are all multiple choice which may sound nice but it's really not. You CAN'T get any partial credit. So, you spend about 20 minutes working out some calculations for this one problem, but then the answer you get isn't even one of the choices! I would not recommend him. Get Hentz or Neyhart."
  • Spring99 "My grade in the class was B.
Dr. Banks is an excellent teacher for those with no Chemistry knowledge, he is available, willing and encouraging to students in class and out of class. He adds humor and informality to his classes. His enthusism towards the course material is bursting, he loves teaching! He gives credit to students for their efforts, if you work hard in the class, do the assignments, attend lectures, pay attention, go to him for help during his office hours, he will add that into your grade. "this guy is a total jerk! He will usually whip through about 4 chapters worth of material, expects us to memorize it by the next class, then give us a quiz that has nothing to do with what we were dealing with! there is no curve here in this class, and his cheesy jokes make me cringe. Avoid this loser if at all possible!"

Fall97 "he's ok for 221, but he makes 223 practically impossible. He teaches "recipe organic", as in you memorize hundreds of reactions and are expected to regurgitate them on the final. His tests are hard and he grades tough...he rarely curves. He tries to make the topic interesting with little stories and anecdotes, but he really just ends up confusing the whole class. He's a nice man and he knows his organic, he's the head of the organic department, but he can't teach worth anything."

  • "Very thorough and funny!"
  • "Good prof--He teaches well and has a good sense of humor. I reccmmend him"
  • Class : CH202, I took the class in Spring99 . I give this teacher a 3 out of 4, my grade in the class was A.
"He is somewhat arrogant. He spends so much time on his computer in his office than helping students with Chemistry that he should be in Computer Science than Chemistry. His book is much better than his lectures. Read the book, do your homework(turn in in), and just go to class a day before tests and you could easily get an A, well anyways that is what I did."

Spring 98 "My grade in the class was A.
Dr. Yang is a very nice guy! At first you won't understand a word he says but later you will start to get his dialect. His exams are not easy but they are much easier that some other chem. 101 classes. The best thing about his class is that he gives exam reviews befor every test! He practically reads the whole test! They are VERY helpful! I say take this guy!"

"He is probably one of the sorries instructors that CALS has ever hired. The man believes he is the Father of Chemistry and that no student has the ability of understanding Chemistry. This is just a brief intruduction of his arrogant personality. As far as teaching, the guy is too brainy that he does not make sense at all. He is only good at one thing, and that is confusing confusing students and making them feel like crap when they don't understand Chemistry. He also makes students feel like perfect igonorants when they ask him questions. As far as a person, he does not care about any body. However, he is excellent at faking. If you happen to meet him for the first time he will fool you making you believe that he is sort of nice. Anybody that has had this sorry instructor, can confirm what I have told the truth"

"James Knop could never win a nobel prize in Chemistry or Research but he would be the perfect candidate to win a trophy for being one of the worst teachers of NCSU. The man brags about being too brainy and an excellent Biochemist. He is actually a sack of s.... He teaches nothing and feels offended if a student is not capable of making A's in his class. In the class room, he acts like an orchestra director. His teaching technique is unique. In order to pass his class, you basically have to read the whole book and be able to understant the concepts well. Asking him questions is like asking a maniac to give you diections. He does not make sense at all. About his presentation, he dresses up like a tramp. He does not know what hygiene means. If you happen to be hear him, make sure you spray the whole area with some sort of deodorant. The man stinks worse than a beast trapped in a cage for months."
