"She NEVER directly tells you what she is looking for in a speech, hence less-than-happy speech grades. But she does tell you exactly what will be on the tests, which don't count for a whole lot. She had to cancel my class's final(for a valid reason) but NEVER gave us a chance to make it up... Many people were counting on that final."

"Experiences mood swings and does not like for students to wear ball caps while speaking. Her mid term was a little off the wall because there was no real notes in the class, but seams to be a fair grader on presentations."

Class :COM 110, I took the class in Fall 1999. I give this teacher a 4 out of 4, my grade in the class was B.
Dr. Heaton is an excellent teacher. She cares about her students and stimulates interest in what she teaches. Public speaking is not a subject that too many people are enthusiastic about, but Dr. Heaton helps you to relax and not be so nervous in front of a crowd. Her class helped me so much, I don't know what I would've done without it.

Fall97 - "If you have to take a communication class, DON'T TAKE THIS ONE!! The information presented in class is useful and presented well; what bothers me is how strict her rules and regulations are. The class appears to run under the guideline "the teacher is right and the student is wrong." Too much emphasis is placed on attendance. Dr. Long takes 10 points off the final grade for each absence after two, excused or not. I can understand taking points off for missing presentations, but taking off that many points for absences is too much in my opinion. Just because I attend class does not mean I will pay attention. The test we take do not appear to be fair either. We take two tests, one with the group and one without (individual accountability). The group tests I enjoy because I like the idea of working together as a group for a grade; I could receive a good grade on a group test if I took it alone. The individual accountability test is also a great idea; however, she makes the individual test much harder than the group test. She should switch the two tests around so that the individual test is easier than the group test."
Fall97 "excellent teacher, will learn a lot; don't let him scare you into dropping the class after the first few days, stick it out"

Fall96 "She is an interesting teacher, however she is really unflexible about late assignments and absences. She prepares the class for the midterm and the final very well! If you usually don't skip classes then chose her anytime!"
Fall97 "She is horrid! Do NOT take her! She is so unfair. She can't even speak herself and she is trying to be a public speaking professor- -Ha! I hated what could have been an enjoyable class. Don't be afraid of public speaking classes; they are excellent opportunities to meet and get to know great people. Just stay away from Robbins."

Tries to make class too HARD. LOTS and LOTS of readings that take lots of time. Never incorperated the readings with what we did in class. Sure they dealt with the same subject, but never brought up in class most of the time. LOTS of ESSAYS!!!!!! Wonderful person but BAD TEACHER!!!"

"She is so awesome! Mrs. Wilson has really fair quizzes and is very supportive of her students. Public speaking is a nightmere for all of us, but she makes it so easy to speak. She is a very reasonable teacher and she understands any speaking anxiety you may have. Take this teacher!"
