Fall97"This man is truly amazing. He is the funniest and most compasionate teacher i have ever had. His tests are fair and he is very nice. He REALLY knows statistcs, math, history, religion, physics, engineering, operations reasearch,....... and the list goes on. If you can take his class, DO IT! YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!"

Dr. Sujit Ghosh

"Rookie professor, but very willing to change and will do a lot to try and make the tests easy. doesn't bother with high-level stuff, but can put you to sleep. I'm trying to blame that on the material though :)"
"Dr. Ghosh is a good professor, and it is clear that he knows what he is talking about. Unfortunately, he has a bit of difficulty with English (although he's getting much better), and his accent is a bit rough at times. Overall, I would recommend Dr. Ghosh. He will doubtlessly be more comprehensible the next time he teaches this course"

Spring98 "Kind of Confusing, most people will skip this class frequently becuase the material is all in the book. Computer Days are like free days. If you learn from a book (the math is simple) then this is the class for you. Open note and open book tests are his norm. no attendance requirements"

Dr. Johnson
ST513
"Class : ST 513, I took the class in Spring, 2000. I give this teacher a 0 out of 4, my grade in the class was A-.
Dr. Johnson is a fine teacher, however, the CD-Rom presentation avaliable through VBEE is the worst educational experience I have ever had. It ranks down there with the old read the text, listen to an audio tape, and turn the page when the bell rings. It was awful!!!"

"Knows material, but has a hard time explaining things. He tends to use a lot of generalities and hand-waving motions. It is easy to get lost in his class. You do learn SAS--hes the best teacher to take if you need to learn a statistical package for your career. Tests could be a little more leniently graded."

Don L. Ridgeway
ST371
"The absolute worst teacher in the world, he has no clue how to teach and erases his notes from the board before you can copy it down. Absolute terror in ST371 "
"Contrary to what the above person believes, Ridgeway is one of the best professors I have ever had."
"This guy is a bit agorant at times. Can be very tough, unflexable, and demanding. This might be considered a good trait and a bad one. He should be avoided if you have a weak heart or expecting something easy. This guy is full of zen, karate, mountian hiking, and wishes to be japaneese."
"Contrary to what I read from one student, I found him a very good lecturer. Also his homeworks were similar to his test problems. I did have 2 complaints. Minor errors were always 5 pts. Also, he seemed to get some pleasure off his students messing up on tests."
"One of the best teachers Ive had. Keeps you on the edge of your seat in lecture, furiously scribbling notes. He is very driven, but is also kind and considerate if you visit his office. One does better in his class if they look past the derivations (endless--and you do have to know them) and looks at the big picture of whats going on. Homework and tests were very reflective of what was covered in lecture. Demands perfection as all good professors do. Dont take him if you want to slide by and not really learn anything."
"You will learn in his class. You have to know the material. My only complaint is his grading. If you have an 89.999 average, you are getting a B. Also, there is at least one homework per week and none are dropped."
Fall97 "Don't listen to anything that the people above me have said. DO NOT take this guy. He gets kicks off embarrasing students in class. Gives homework, after homework, after homework. He gives hw problems out of the book and they have nothing to do with what you are learning. Every so often he will give a problem set for homework, and the test questions are similar to those, but he'll change them so you can't figure them out. The worst part of the class are his jokes. Please I beg you DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS. "
"I took the class in Fall1998. I give this teacher a 2 out of 4, my grade in the class was A+.
Better teacher than the previous comments would indicate. Handwriting takes a while to get used to. Takes off a lot of points for careless errors, though the tests do have a nice feature: you omit one question. Regular tests have five questions, of which you must answer four. Final has six, of which you answer five. Homework was rare but pretty long when it was assigned. Helpful outside of class. Makes bizarre jokes that'll make you laugh because you'll have no idea why they're so funny to him. Gives lots and lots of examples. Doesn't use the book much. If you ask him to stop erasing the notes, he will. He likes to talk to students before and after class. Overall, though some people on this board seem to hate him, I thought he was fine. "

Dr. Wasik
ST101
"He tells you on the first day that he is used to teaching graduate classes. That is your sign to get out. He does not teach the class like it is the first semester of statistics but rather like it is the last.."
Fall97 ST101 "This guy made everyone suffer through his class by taking attendence every day and giving a new assignment at the end of each class. He never told us how anything was weighted in the class. And he's BORING! I taught myself all the material."
Fall98 ST508 "My grade in the class was A.
Boring! Poorly prepared! Lectures and Homework assignments were prepared the same day as class. Tests were easy. This is a classic do-it-yourselfer. I learned it myself, but those who failed to take iniative got almost nothing out of the class.
Dr. Wasik is friendly and approachable. "
